Includes the transcript as a free byproduct | | `clips_from_job` | $0.50 per output file | No-upload. Cuts clips from a parent video job (`find_clips`, `summarize`, or video `transcribe`). Required `orientation` (`horizontal` / `vertical`) and `output` (`files` for one download per clip, `reel` to join them into one). A `reel` is a flat $0.50 whatever the segment count; `files` bills per file. | | `clips_from_video` | up to $4.50, card only | Upload-based chain. Finds the best moments AND cuts up to five of them under one payment. Authorizes the maximum up front and captures only what delivers, which MPP push settlement cannot express — wallet-only callers should use `find_clips` + `clips_from_job`. | | `edit_from_transcript` | $1.00 flat | No-upload. Edits a video by editing its transcript: delete words or lines, reorder whole lines. Parent is a completed video `transcribe`, `summarize`, or `find_clips` job. Failed jobs auto-refund. ## Tool selection guidance - Want **clips** from a video (Reels, TikToks, highlights, testimonials)? Call `find_clips` ($2.00). It transcribes the source as a free byproduct AND returns ranked clip candidates with timestamps + full text. **Do NOT call `transcribe` first** — that double-pays and double-uploads for a transcript `find_clips` already produces. - Want a **transcript only**? Call `transcribe` ($0.50 audio / $1.00 video). - Want a **summary** of a long recording? Call `summarize` ($0.75 audio / $1.25 video) — also returns the full transcript. - Want to **cut** a moment you already identified? Call `clips_from_job` with `source_job_id`, `orientation` (`horizontal` keeps the source framing; `vertical` crops to 9:16 for short-form social) and `output` (`files` for one download per clip, `reel` to join every clip into one file). Both are required, no default. A `reel` is a flat $0.50; `files` is N × $0.50. - Want to **edit a video by editing its transcript** (remove words, sentences, or sections; reorder whole lines)? Call `edit_from_transcript` ($1.00 flat, video only). Get the editable text first with `get_job_status(job_id, format: "edit")` (free). - Want clips from a raw video in one card payment? Call `clips_from_video` (up to $4.50, card only). ## Source-reuse contract Every job carries an `expires_at`. After `find_clips` completes, the source video stays in storage for **72 hours**. `transcribe` and `summarize` parents stay for **24 hours**. To cut N clips from one video, the supported pattern is exactly one `find_clips` call ($2.00) followed by `clips_from_job` calls ($0.50 per output file), all referencing the same `find_clips` `job_id` as their `source_job_id`. Each derivative runs against the cached source — re-uploading per cut wastes time and money. ## Supported formats **Audio:** `audio/mpeg`, `audio/wav`, `audio/mp4`, `audio/ogg`, `audio/flac`, `audio/webm` **Video:** `video/mp4`, `video/quicktime`, `video/webm` **Transcript output formats** (use `?format=` on the download endpoint): - `srt` (default), `txt`, `vtt` - `json` — `weftly-transcript-v1` (segments only) - `words` — `weftly-transcript-v2` (segments + per-word timestamps; ideal for clipping, multicamera edits, edit-video-from-transcript) **Vertical clip profiles** (`clips_from_job` with `orientation: "vertical"`, and the `extract_vertical_clip` REST job type): - `tiktok-primary` (default) — 1080×1920 H.264, fast preset, CRF 22. Max 240s - `tiktok-primary-720p` — 720×1280 CBR 3 Mbps, ~40% faster wall time. Max 240s - `instagram-reels` — 1080×1920 H.264, slow preset, CBR 4 Mbps. Max 180s - `instagram-stories` — same encode shape as `instagram-reels`. Max 60s All four profiles loudness-normalize to -14 LUFS / -1.5 dBTP. ## Authentication & payment ### Session token (REST flows) Obtain via `POST /api/v1/sessions`. Returns SRT + word-level JSON | | `summarize` | $0.75 audio / $1.25 video | Upload-based. Returns transcript + summary text | | `find_clips` | $2.00 video | Upload-based. Returns ranked clip candidates (JSON matching `weftly-clips-v1`), full transcript, and word-level transcript. Optional `query` parameter for query-mode discovery | | `clips_from_job` | $0.50 per output file | No-upload. Edits a video by editing its transcript: delete words or lines, move whole lines. Parent is a completed video `transcribe`, `summarize`, or `find_clips` job (`source_job_id`). Get the editable text with `get_job_status(job_id, format: "edit")` (free), then send it back as `edited_transcript` (max 256 KB) with optional `title`. Invalid edits are rejected before payment. Up to 300 cuts and 60 minutes of output per call. Outputs: edited video, re-timed SRT, word-level transcript. Video only. | | `complete_upload` | free | After PUTting the file bytes to a presigned URL, call this to verify the upload and start processing | | `get_job_status` | free | Poll status, retrieve presigned download URLs when complete, or recover the payment challenge / upload URL if a prior response was lost | | `mpp_smoke_test` | $0.01 | Smoke-tests the MPP plumbing end-to-end before any real-cost call | ### MCP flow — upload-based tools 1. Call the tool with `filename` (and any tool-specific params). Server returns `{ job_id, payment_challenge }`. The `payment_required` response carries an MPP challenge AND a Stripe Checkout URL fallback. 2. Sign the challenge with mppx (or open the Checkout URL in a browser), then retry the tool with `job_id` + `payment_credential` — server returns `{ upload_url, expires_at }`. 3. `PUT` the file bytes to `upload_url` (1h expiry). 4. Call `complete_upload(job_id)` to verify and start processing. 5. Poll `get_job_status(job_id)` until `status: "completed"`. ### MCP flow — no-upload tools (`clips_from_job`, `edit_from_transcript`) 1. Call the tool with `source_job_id` plus tool params. `clips_from_job` takes `orientation`, `output`, and `clips` (array of `{ start, end, title? }` in source seconds). `edit_from_transcript` takes `edited_transcript` and optional `title`. Server returns `{ job_id, payment_challenge }`. 2. Sign and retry with `job_id` + `payment_credential` — processing starts immediately. 3. Poll `get_job_status(job_id)` for the output files and optional transcripts. `clips_from_video` is upload-based and card only: call with `filename`, `content_type`, optional `query` and `orientation` (`vertical` default, or `horizontal`); resume with the same `job_id`. Calling any tool with `job_id` alone returns the current state — useful for recovery if the original response was lost. --- ## Customer-facing tool cards Plain-English tool descriptions live at `/.well-known/cards/{tool_name}.md`. URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/does-weftly-use-ai-to-generate-video/ Published: 2026-10-05 Tags: ai, trust, video-editing, creators, journalism Author: Mike Lagerquist and Becki True > No. Weftly cuts, joins, and re-times the footage you upload. It does not generate video, audio, or spoken words, and every job output starts from your file. No. Weftly does not generate video, audio, or spoken words. It cuts, joins, and re-times the footage you upload, so nothing appears in the result that was not in your file.
Mike Lagerquist and Becki True on what Weftly does and doesn't do with AI.
## What does Weftly do instead of generating content? In the video, the answer is short: "if it's not in the video that you hand us, it's not going to be output." Weftly takes the video you give it and does the repetitive production work around it. That means transcribing it, finding the moments worth clipping, cutting them, and joining them. Mike and Becki describe this as taking the drudgery out of editing, which most creatives like least, so people can spend their time on the creative parts. ## Where does AI come in, and where doesn't it? | Job | What the AI does | What ends up in your video | | --- | --- | --- | | Transcribe | Turns speech into text with timestamps | Nothing is added. The transcript is a separate file. | | Find Clips | Reads the transcript and ranks moments worth clipping | Nothing is added. You get candidates with start and end times. | | Summarize | Writes a text summary of the recording | Nothing is added to the video. The summary is a separate text file. | | Edit from transcript | None. It cuts at the word timestamps you kept. | Your footage, cut and joined. | | Cut clips | None. It cuts at the times you choose. | Your footage, trimmed. | The AI reads and describes your recording. It does not write into your video. ## Can Weftly make someone say something they didn't say? No. [Edit from transcript](/blog/edit-video-by-editing-transcript/) lets you delete words, delete sentences, and move whole sentences. You can't add or change a word. If an edit would need a word that was never spoken, Weftly lists the lines it can't cut before you pay. For journalists and anyone else whose credibility rests on what was actually said, that limit is intentional. One thing does change: the audio of finished video outputs is loudness-normalized to -14 LUFS, the level YouTube and podcast apps target. That adjusts volume. It does not change what is said. ## Do I stay in control? Yes. You see the clip candidates before anything is cut. You edit the transcript yourself, and you can go back and re-edit it if the result isn't what you wanted. Weftly does the mechanical work, and you decide what gets published. ## Try it Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) and drop in a video. Edit from transcript is $1.00 per edit with no subscription. Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). ### FAQ **Does Weftly generate video or audio?** No. Weftly cuts, joins, and re-times the video you upload. It does not create new footage, new voices, or new spoken words. **Can Weftly add words that were never said?** No. Edit from transcript can delete words, delete sentences, and move whole sentences. It cannot add or change words, because it can only use what was spoken. If an edit breaks that rule, Weftly lists the lines it can't cut before you pay. **Where does Weftly use AI?** In analysis. Speech-to-text turns your audio into a transcript, and an AI model reads the transcript to rank clip candidates and, if you ask for it, write a summary. Those outputs are labeled as analysis, and the video you get back contains only your footage. **Do I stay in control of the result?** Yes. You see clip candidates before anything is cut, you edit the transcript yourself, and you can change it and run it again if the result isn't what you wanted. **How much does an edit cost?** Edit from transcript is $1.00 per edit with no subscription. Run one long interview through Weftly's Find Clips and you get ranked short clips with timestamps. Run the same video through Edit from transcript and you get a trimmed long-form cut. Short clips bring people in, and the long cut keeps the story whole.
Mike Lagerquist describes how The Woven Record turns long local interviews into clips.
## Why would one interview need two versions? Mike Lagerquist records long conversations with people who have deep ties to Mankato, Minnesota. In the video above, he describes two of them. One person sat down and told a series of linked stories that ran about six or seven minutes. A friend told stories about growing up in Mankato and about his grandfather, in a string of segments that each ran from a minute and a half to four minutes. Viewers use these differently. Many people like small bites: they watch one clip and come back later for another. Others want to follow the story from beginning to end. Publishing both serves both groups from a single recording. ## How do I turn a long interview into short clips? 1. Upload the interview to [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) and ask for clips, or call `find_clips` from an MCP client. 2. Weftly transcribes the video and returns ranked candidates. Each has a title, start and end times, and the words spoken in it. 3. Read the candidates and choose the ones you want. 4. Cut them. Each clip is $0.50, or join several into one reel for a flat $0.50. Find Clips is $2.00 per video, and the transcript comes with it, so you don't pay for a separate transcription. The source video stays in storage for 72 hours, so you can cut more clips later without uploading again. You stay in control. You see the candidates before anything is cut, and you choose which ones to publish. ## How do I keep the long version short? Long interviews contain false starts, side trips, and moments when the same topic comes up twice. Edit from transcript lets you delete those sentences or move related ones together, then cuts the video to match. It runs against the video Weftly already stored, so there is no second upload. See [how Edit from transcript works](/blog/edit-video-by-editing-transcript/). The result is a long-form version that is still fairly short and follows the story from start to finish. ## What does this look like with a real interview? Mike recorded a retired Minnesota State University, Mankato music instructor, Al "Doc" Wortman, who led a concert choir called the Ellis Street Singers for about three decades. The interview ran about 45 minutes. Using Find Clips, Mike and Becki put together eight to ten clips about different parts of Doc's story, and viewers can watch them all in a YouTube playlist. Weftly also suggests other clips to watch when you finish one. A long-form version of the full conversation is next on their list, for viewers who want to follow the train of thought from beginning to end. ## What does it cost? | Step | Cost | | --- | --- | | Find Clips on the interview (includes the transcript) | $2.00 | | Each clip cut | $0.50 | | Several clips joined into one reel | $0.50 flat | | Edit from transcript for the long-form cut | $1.00 | There is no subscription. Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). ## Try it Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), drop in a long recording, and ask for clips. ### FAQ **How do I turn a long interview into short clips?** Run Find Clips on the full recording. Weftly transcribes it and returns ranked clip candidates with start and end times and the text of each. You pick the ones you want and cut them. Find Clips is $2.00 per video and each cut clip is $0.50. **Can I also publish the interview as one long video?** Yes. Use Edit from transcript on the same video to remove false starts and rambling, and keep the story in order. It costs $1.00 per edit, and you don't need to upload the video again. **How long should each clip be?** The Woven Record's clips from storytelling interviews run from about a minute and a half to four minutes. Find Clips returns each candidate with its own start and end time, so you decide the length. **Do I need to upload the interview again for each clip?** No. After Find Clips finishes, the source video stays in Weftly storage for 72 hours. Cutting clips from it needs no second upload and no second transcript. **Is there a promo code?** Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). Mike Lagerquist is customer zero, and his requests, like the Discord client, shape the product. Weftly is built by the people who use it. Becki True and Steve Jarvis build it, and Mike Lagerquist uses it to make The Woven Record, a local video news site in Mankato, Minnesota. What Mike runs into becomes what Weftly does next.
Becki True and Mike Lagerquist on building Weftly while using it.
## What does "customer zero" mean? Mike is the first user of every new Weftly feature. In the video, Becki tells him: "you're customer zero," and his feedback "drives a lot of what we do." The team is on both sides of the product, building it and using it to publish The Woven Record, so a feature gets judged by whether it makes the next video easier to make. Mike puts the result this way: "we are doers as well as shapers of the product." Instead of guessing what creators need, the question is usually "what if we tried to do this," or "can we do this instead to make it work easier." ## Why does Weftly have a Discord client? Mike needed to do things Weftly couldn't do yet. To unblock him, the team built a chat interface in Discord.
How the Discord client brands a clip, and why Weftly is built as a platform.
Here is how Mike uses it. He tells the chat he wants to brand a clip and links the clip's output from a job he already ran in Weftly. The Weftly bot, weftly-hermes, replies with five questions: which brand, the guest's name and title, any URLs for the description, whether to add a "Like & Subscribe" lower-third near the end, and whether to add the brand end card. Mike answers all five in one message, the bot repeats his answers back exactly as written, and he replies "yes" to lock them in. Some of this he used to do by hand in YouTube. Hermes also steers him back when a command isn't quite right, and he says it's polite: it has him asking "I would like to please brand this clip." ![Discord conversation in which Mike Lagerquist asks the weftly-hermes bot to brand a clip. The bot lists five questions: brand, guest name and title, URLs for the description, a Like & Subscribe lower-third, and a brand end card. Mike answers Woven Record; Georgia "Jo" Schultz, longtime Mankato family; none; yes; yes. The bot confirms the answers exactly as written and asks him to reply yes to lock them in, and Mike replies yes.](/images/discord-brand-clip.png) *The branding conversation in Discord, from the first question to Mike's confirmation.* For the step-by-step version, see [Editing Videos with Weftly in Mobile Discord](/blog/editing-on-mobile-with-discord/). ## What does it mean that Weftly is a platform? Weftly has two layers. Underneath are the compute and the message endpoints. On top are clients that people talk to. [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) is a chat client the team built, and the Discord client is another. Becki's point is that the back end doesn't care which client calls it: it says how to talk to it, what you can ask, and what it will give back. If your team works in a different tool, you can build a client for that. [Agent for the Agentless](/blog/agent-for-the-agentless/) covers the chat client and building your own. ## What is next? As of October 1, 2026, the next item on the roadmap is the multi-camera edit. The Woven Record team already combines camera angles in its own production, and Weftly is where they plan to bring it. For how that works today, see [From Raw Multicam Footage to a Published Video, Without Touching a Timeline](/blog/multicam-to-published-no-timeline/). ## What do you want to build? Becki and Mike say they would like to work with other creators and small businesses that want to make video without hiring an editor. If something you need isn't there, tell them. Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) to try it. Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). ### FAQ **Who builds Weftly?** Becki True and Steve Jarvis build it. Mike Lagerquist uses it to make The Woven Record, a local video news site in Mankato, Minnesota, and his feedback drives what gets built. They call that customer zero. **Why does Weftly have a Discord client?** Mike needed to do some things that Weftly's other clients couldn't do yet. To unblock him, the team added a chat interface in Discord. In it you link a clip, answer five prompts, and Weftly brands the clip with chyrons, the guest's name and title, a Like & Subscribe lower-third, and a brand end card. **What is a client in Weftly's design?** Weftly is a platform: the compute and the message endpoints sit underneath, and a client sits on top. [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) is one client. The Discord client is another. Anyone can build one for the way they work. **What is coming next for Weftly?** As of October 1, 2026, the next item on the roadmap is the multi-camera edit, which The Woven Record team already uses in its own production. **Is there a promo code?** Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). Edit from transcript lets you edit a video the way you edit a document. Delete a sentence or move one, and Weftly cuts the video to match. There is no timeline and no editing software. Cutting a talk or an interview usually means scrubbing a timeline to find the spot where someone rambled. You already know which sentences you want. You can see them in the transcript. So edit the transcript, and let Weftly cut the video to match.
From raw video to an edited cut in chat.weftly.ai, in under two minutes.
In June we promised that editing video from the transcript would be available to everyone. It's live today as **Edit from transcript**. > **Looking for a promo code?** Current codes are on the > [offers page](/offers/). Mike Lagerquist is a longtime, much-loved local journalist in Mankato, Minnesota, and he makes The Woven Record with Becki True. He came to video from print. He knows how to cut a sentence, move a paragraph, and find the lead. What stood between him and video was the editing software, which is a different skill with a steep learning curve. Edit from transcript removes that barrier. The transcript is a document, and working on a document is what Mike already does. He describes it this way: you get a transcript, then "do your editing like it were a Word document, move things around, cut things out," and Weftly applies those changes to the video. Of everything he has worked on in Weftly lately, he calls this "a really exciting feature." He doesn't need editing software on his computer, and he gets to tell his stories in a new way. His excitement carries through the rest of the conversation. Of using Weftly, he says, "it has been so exciting. I'm looking forward to doing more things on it, because each time you learn that new process, it opens up possibilities for other things to do." He calls it "very intuitive" and "very easy once you get into it."
Mike Lagerquist explains editing by editing the transcript. Then he and Becki True explain why Weftly charges per job.
## How it works in the browser 1. Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), attach your video, and ask Weftly to transcribe it so you can edit it. 2. When the transcript is ready, Weftly opens the transcript editor in the chat. 3. Click a word to select it, or click a timestamp to select a whole sentence. Shift-click to extend the selection. Press **Delete** to strike it out. 4. To move sentences, select them, click **Move sentences**, then pick **Put here**. 5. Click **Cut this video** and pay $1.00. Weftly renders the edit and returns the new video. No account and no timeline. You can't type in the editor, so every change you make is one Weftly can cut. The editor shows the number of cuts and the new length as you go. ## What you get back - The edited video, cut and joined at the words you kept. - An SRT and a word-level transcript, re-timed to the new cut, ready for captions. - Audio loudness-normalized to -14 LUFS, the level YouTube and podcast apps target. ## What you can and can't change You can delete words, delete sentences, and move whole sentences. You can't add or change words, because Weftly cuts real footage and can only use words that were spoken. If an edit breaks that rule, Weftly lists the lines it can't cut **before you pay**. Edit from transcript works on video only for now. Each edit can make up to 300 cuts and produce up to 60 minutes of output. ## Already have a transcript? Any video job with a word-level transcript works as the source: Transcribe, Summarize, or Find Clips. The edit runs against the video Weftly already stored, so there's no re-upload and no second transcript. ## From your AI agent If you use Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client with the [Weftly MCP server](/mcp/), ask your agent for the editable transcript of a job. It comes as a plain text file with one numbered line per sentence: ``` [0001] Hi everyone, um, welcome to the show. [0002] Today we're talking about how to ship faster. [0003] And I think the biggest mistake is treating speed and quality as opposites. ``` Delete lines, delete words, or move lines, and keep each line's `[NNNN]` marker. Then send it back with `edit_from_transcript`. You can hand the file to your agent with instructions like "cut the intro and lead with line 3," or edit it yourself in any text editor. ## Why pay per edit instead of subscribing? Editing software usually costs a monthly subscription, or adds a watermark to your video. In the clip above, Mike and Becki explain why Weftly charges a flat fee per job instead. You pay when a video comes up, and there is no pressure to produce more just to justify a subscription. ## Try it Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) and drop in a video. It's $1.00 per edit, with no subscription and no sign-up. Current promo codes are on the [offers page](/offers/). ### FAQ **What does Edit from transcript do?** It cuts a video to match an edited copy of its transcript. Delete words or sentences, or move whole sentences, and Weftly cuts and joins the source video to match. You get back the edited video, an SRT, and a word-level transcript, both re-timed to the new cut. **How much does it cost?** $1.00 per edit, paid per job with no subscription. You need a transcript first. If your video doesn't have one yet, a video transcript is $1.00. A Summarize or Find Clips job on the same video also works as the source, so you don't pay for a second transcript. **Do I need video editing experience?** No. If you can delete a sentence in a document, you can edit a video with Edit from transcript. Mike Lagerquist, a longtime print journalist in Mankato, uses it to make video without learning editing software. **Is there a promo code?** Current promo codes are listed at [weftly.ai/offers](/offers/). Enter one at checkout. **Can I add or fix words?** Not yet. You can delete words, delete sentences, and move whole sentences. Weftly cuts real footage, so it can only keep or reorder words that were actually spoken. If an edit changes or adds a word, Weftly lists the lines it can't cut before you pay. **Does it work on podcasts or other audio-only files?** Not yet. Edit from transcript works on video jobs only. Audio support is on the list. Email hello@weftly.ai if you want it. **Do I have to re-upload my video?** No. The edit runs against the video already stored from your transcribe, summarize, or find_clips job. Sources stay in storage for 24 hours after a transcribe or summarize job and 72 hours after find_clips. **Can I use it from Claude or another AI agent?** Yes. Call the edit_from_transcript tool on the Weftly MCP server. Your agent downloads the transcript in the free edit format, one numbered line per sentence, edits it, and sends it back. You can also edit that text file yourself in any text editor. --- # Blog: Agent for the Agentless: Weftly Now Has a Chat Client (and Anyone Can Build Their Own) URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/agent-for-the-agentless/ Published: 2026-08-30 Author: Becki > Weftly now ships a browser chat client for people without an MCP agent already set up, and the tool surface behind it is open for anyone to build their own client on top of. ## Weftly Is a Platform, Not an App Weftly began with a bet: video editing should be a set of tools an agent can call, not a timeline you drag things around on. Transcribe. Summarize. Find the good moments. Cut a vertical clip. Publish it. Each one a single MCP call, paid per job, no account and no subscription. That bet still holds. But it came with an assumption baked in — that you already have an agent. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, something that speaks MCP and that you've already set up. Plenty of people do. Plenty of people don't, and telling them "first, install an MCP host" is a strange thing to say to someone who just wants a clip out of last week's interview. So we brought our chat client back. An "agent for the agentless" [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) ## chat.weftly.ai Open it in a browser, drop in a file, say what you want. The agent on the other side knows Weftly's tools and drives them for you. No connector config, no JSON, no install. If you've never heard of MCP, you never need to. It's a genuinely nice way to work. Ask for a transcript and get one. Ask which three minutes of a 90-minute recording are worth posting, and the agent runs find_clips, reads the results back to you in plain language, and cuts what you pick. The source video stays in storage, so if you decided you want more clips, you don't re-upload and don't re-transcribe your video.
**Looking for a promo code?** Current codes are on the [offers page](/offers/). ## weftly-hermes, the Discord client Here's the part that matters more than the chat app itself. **You can build your own client for your own workflow, without having to build and pay for the video processing platform underneath.** Mike, our editor at [The Woven Record](https://www.youtube.com/@TheWovenRecord), needed branded clips. Branding wasn't in Weftly's pipeline yet, and he shouldn't have to wait on us to ship it or on me to run a Claude skill to do it for him. So, to unblock him, we built weftly-hermes: a Discord app backed by a container running hermes and ffmpeg. He posts a clip in a channel, it comes back branded. I use it now too, because it's a dead simple (and fun) way to get branded clips. It took part of a weekend. It is not a product. It is a client, built for Mike's workflow, and to keep our team's branding consistent. Those custom branding skills are coming to [Weftly](https://weftly.ai) proper soon. But hermes made the real point first, which is that nobody had to ask permission to build it. Weftly's tools were already there and already callable. The interface was the only thing missing, and because Weftly's interfaces are well defined, building on top of it as a Discord or Slack app is fairly easy. ## Two clients, one platform [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) and weftly-hermes have almost nothing in common. One is a polished browser experience for a first-time user. One is a Discord bot for a single editor in a two-person newsroom. Different users, different surfaces, different orchestration. They call the same tools. >Weftly is not a video editor with an API bolted on the side. The tool surface _is_ the product, and the client is a choice — ours, yours, or none at all if you'd rather just point Claude at it and skip the UI entirely. There are three ways to use Weftly today and they're all first-class: >- **Bring your own agent.** Add Weftly as an MCP connector in Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP host. This is still the most powerful way to use it, because your agent can chain Weftly with everything else it can reach. >- **Use one of ours.** chat.weftly.ai if you want a conversation. Hermes-style bots if you want the work to happen where your team already talks. >- **Build your own.** A CLI for your pipeline. A bot for your Slack. A web form your clients can use without knowing what a transcript job costs. ## What it actually takes to build a client Less than you'd expect, and that's on purpose. The easiest way is to build on top of Weftly's MCP server, but you can also call the Weftly APIs directly. Payment is per job and happens inline. Calling a paid tool returns a payment challenge; browser-based hosts get a Stripe Checkout link and pay by card, agent hosts can sign it with USDC. Either way, the tool runs once it's paid. Your client doesn't need billing infrastructure because Weftly's meter is attached to the call, not to a customer record you're responsible for. Jobs are two-phase. Initiate to get a job id and a payment link, pay, then resume with the job id and poll for status. Long jobs don't hold a connection open, so a Discord bot and a browser tab and a shell script can all live with the same pattern without any of them pretending to be a long-running session. And source reuse means a clip pipeline is cheap to build. Transcribe or find clips once, then pass that job id as the source for every cut you want. No re-upload, no re-transcribe. ## Try it, then break it Start at [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), check the [offers page](/offers/) for a current code, and see whether the workflow fits how you think about your footage. If it does, the more interesting question is what you'd build on top of it — because the tools that make the chat app work are the same ones sitting there waiting for whatever client you have in mind. We'd like to see what you make. Come tell us at hello@weftly.ai --- # Blog: Just Ask. Get Your Reels URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/make-reels-by-asking-claude/ Published: 2026-07-02 Tags: reels, mcp, claude, video-editing, creators, vertical-video Author: Becki > Skip the part of video-making nobody enjoys. With Weftly, you just describe the clip you want and get it back, inside the AI tools you already use. No editing software, no timeline, no subscription. If you're like most creators, you've got footage. You want clips to post. The part in between — finding the good moments, cropping to vertical, trimming it down, normalizing the audio, getting a transcript — is the part nobody actually wants to do. We sure don't like that part. That's why we built Weftly. Weftly does that part for you. You ask Claude for the clip; you get the clip back. There's no editor to open, nothing to install, and no subscription. ## What you actually get - **The slow, boring work — done fast.** Just ask Weftly for *"the best 30 seconds, cropped for Reels,"* and that's what comes back. Or ask Weftly to find the best clips for you. - **Nothing to buy or install.** Weftly runs inside the AI tools you already use, like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and OpenClaw. - **No monthly subscription.** You pay per job, and you get what you pay for. We'd rather you pay for the clips you make than sign up for a plan that works out better for us than for you. ## How it works 1. Add Weftly to your AI tool — a one-time setup that takes a couple of minutes. 2. Drop in your video and say what you want. 3. Get the finished clip back to download and post. Here's exactly how we made the demo below. I said, *"I want to get a vertical clip of my video to post to reels."* Claude asked me to upload the clip I wanted, then used Weftly to pull the best moments and cut a 9:16 vertical clip with the speaker kept in frame. I never touched a timeline.
## Why we built it Honestly? Because we don't like editing video either. Mike and I run The Woven Record, and we had — okay, still have — a backlog of raw interviews waiting to be published. Editing them was the thing we kept putting off. So we worked with Steve and built Weftly to get through the backlog without dreading it. It worked well enough on our own footage that we wanted to hand it to other people. ## Try it on one video. Or dozens. Current promo codes are on the [offers page](/offers/). If you've got footage piling up, point it at one video and see how far "just ask" gets you. Weftly finds the best moments and cuts a 9:16 clip you can download and post. There is no editor to open and no timeline to touch. **What is Weftly?** Weftly is an MCP server for video. It lets Claude and other AI tools transcribe, find clips, and cut horizontal or vertical shorts. The processing runs on Weftly's servers, so the agent makes a tool call and gets the finished file back. You pay per job with no subscription. **Does Weftly require a subscription or an account?** No. Weftly is pay-per-job with no account required. Find Clips is $2.00 and returns ranked candidates with timestamps. Each clip you cut, horizontal or 9:16 vertical, is $0.50. The setup is simple and payment is frictionless with Machine Payments Protocol. Weftly is an AI-first product built in an AI-first way, but know that this post is written by my own little fingers. Last week I published a [demo using Weftly with Openclaw on YouTube](https://youtu.be/YiFV0T-E7HI). This is a quick extension of that setup, where we hook OpenClaw up to Discord, and start using that familiar Discord interface to drive the same editing flows from a channel in our team server. It's all the same setup on the backend, but [adding the Discord interface](https://docs.openclaw.ai/channels/discord) gets you easy first class user experience on mobile, complete with native video uploads and the Discord environment you know and love. One thing to note is the upload size limit on Discord servers. The default limit on a free server is 10Mb, and videos can easily exceed that. A couple Boosts can get you a much higher limit, but something to be aware of! It's really pretty slick overall. ## Get Started This demo shows Weftly running in OpenClaw, driven with Discord. But the pluggable magic of MCP means this could just as easily connect to Claude Code, Gemini, LiteLLM, whatever, and use the UX of wherever you have that agent. Weftly is offered over MCP. Connect to it from wherever you're already working! No software to install, no account to create. Just work with the stack you're already using and set it up with Weftly to help with editing. The simplest start is pointing your agent at our MCP page ([https://weftly.ai/mcp](https://weftly.ai/mcp)) and tell it to set you up. If you're using Claude Code, also check out our Marketplace ([https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins](https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins)). Accurate transcription. The work happens on Weftly's servers. Claude makes a tool call and gets the result, so editing a video does not mean the model is parsing frames or retrying ffmpeg commands. That keeps the token cost low and the output predictable. ## Why We Built It Weftly came out of our own newsroom. We run [The Woven Record](https://www.youtube.com/@TheWovenRecord), a grassroots news site, and we needed local reporters to turn what they shot into video stories without first learning editing software. So the time goes into the story, not the tool. We edit our own videos and demos with Weftly every week, which is why we are comfortable shipping it to everyone else today. ## How to Try It There are two ways in, and the prices are the same either way: **In Claude or any MCP host.** Add the Weftly MCP server at `api.weftly.ai/mcp` and ask in plain English: "find the best clips in this interview," "cut a vertical short from 12:40 to 13:10," "publish this to YouTube." The [MCP setup guide](/blog/how-to-edit-videos-with-mcp-server/) walks through it. **In a browser, nothing to install.** Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), upload a file, and pick what you want. Pay by card per job. ## What It Costs Pay per job, no subscription. Current promo codes are on the [offers page](/offers/). Regular prices: - Transcript: $0.50 audio, $1.00 video - Summary: $0.75 audio, $1.25 video - Find Clips: $2.00, returns ranked candidates with timestamps - Each clip cut, horizontal or 9:16 vertical: $0.50 A sixty-minute episode turned into five vertical shorts plus a transcript is $2.00 + (5 × $0.50) = $4.50, start to finish. You don't have to set any of that up. Open chat.weftly.ai in a browser, pay per job, and get transcripts, clips, and shorts back in minutes. If you saw a tutorial where someone edits a video by getting Claude to run ffmpeg, here is the part the tutorial skipped: you don't have to set any of that up to get the same result. Open [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) in a browser, upload your file, and pick what you want. The transcript, clips, or vertical shorts come back in minutes. No ffmpeg, no skills, no plugins, no tokens spent. Those tutorials are genuinely good. They also show you the whole iceberg: installing ffmpeg, configuring Claude, loading skills and plugins, and then spending tokens every time the agent reads a file or fixes a broken command. That is fine if editing software is the hobby. It is a lot of overhead if you just want to ship one video a week and get back to creating. ## Why We Built Weftly Weftly came out of our own newsroom. We run [The Woven Record](https://www.youtube.com/@TheWovenRecord), a grassroots news site, and we needed local journalists to be able to turn raw footage into video stories without first learning editing software. That is what chat.weftly.ai is. A reporter uploads what they shot, picks what they need, and gets it back, so the time goes into the story instead of the software. We also edit our own videos and our Weftly demo videos, and for that we use the MCP server. We are comfortable working in Claude. We figured other people would like to use the same tools we do, but without building and maintaining them. We built both paths because we use both paths every week. So before you decide to set all of that up, figure out which kind of creator you are. ## Which Path Fits You There are really three kinds of people who watch the "edit video with Claude" tutorials. **You want the result, not the setup.** You don't want to install anything or learn a tool. You want a transcript, a few good clips, or a vertical short, and you want to spend your time creating, not configuring. This is most solo creators, and it is the local journalists we built Weftly for. Use [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai). It is a web page. You upload, pick, and pay per job. There is nothing to maintain. **You already work in Claude and want it to do more without the overhead.** You are comfortable with software and you like having the agent in the loop, but you don't want to run ffmpeg locally and you don't want editing to eat your token budget. Add the [Weftly MCP server](/blog/how-to-edit-videos-with-mcp-server/). Claude calls a tool, Weftly does the heavy processing on its own servers, and the finished file comes back. You skip the local install, and you stop paying in tokens for every ffmpeg retry. This is how we edit our own videos and our Weftly demos. **You want to configure everything yourself.** You enjoy maintaining ffmpeg, wiring up skills and plugins, and spending tokens to drive the edit. That path works and you keep full control. If this is you, you probably already closed this tab, and that is fine. Weftly is not trying to replace it. Weftly serves the first two. The rest of this post is for them. ## What It Costs in Time A sixty-minute episode turned into five vertical shorts plus a transcript takes about fifteen minutes (post upload) on Weftly, and almost none of it is your attention. You upload once, pick the clips, and the processing runs while you do something else. The DIY route spends that same time differently. Installing ffmpeg, getting Claude configured, loading the right skills, and then waiting through the retries when a command does not parse the first time. The output can be just as good. The difference is how much of your day it takes and whether you are babysitting it. ## What It Costs in Money Pay per job, no subscription, the same prices whether you use the web page or the MCP server: - Transcript: $0.50 audio, $1.00 video - Summary: $0.75 audio, $1.25 video - Find Clips: $2.00, returns ranked candidates with timestamps - Each clip cut, horizontal or 9:16 vertical: $0.50 So that sixty-minute episode into five shorts is $2.00 + (5 × $0.50) = $4.50, start to finish. For how that compares to Descript, Castmagic, and the rest, see [the 2026 podcast post-production cost comparison](/blog/cost-to-post-produce-a-podcast-2026/). The DIY route looks free until you count the tokens. When Claude runs ffmpeg itself, every file read, command write, output check, and retry is tokens out of your budget. A flat $0.50 per cut is easier to predict than a token bill that grows every time a filtergraph fails. ## Why Hosted Uses Fewer Tokens This is the part the tutorials rarely mention. Getting Claude to edit video directly means the model is doing the work: reading the file, composing the ffmpeg command, inspecting what came out, and trying again when something breaks. Each of those steps consumes context and tokens. Not a problem if that's the kind of thing you enjoy, but another piece of software to learn and manage if it's not something you enjoy. With Weftly, the processing happens on Weftly's servers. The agent makes one tool call and gets the finished result back. The model is not parsing video or retrying commands, so the same edit costs a fraction of the tokens. That is the whole point of the MCP path: keep Claude in the loop without making Claude do the heavy lifting. ## How to Start If you want the simplest path, go to [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), upload a file, and pick what you want. Pay by card per job. Nothing to install. If you want Claude to do it, add the MCP server at `api.weftly.ai/mcp` to your host and ask in plain English. The [MCP setup guide](/blog/how-to-edit-videos-with-mcp-server/) walks through it. Either way, the setup the tutorials show you is optional. Skipping it gets you the same transcript, clips, and shorts, with less of your time and a bill you can predict. --- **Try it:** [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) · Pay per job · No subscription · No setup · [weftly.ai](https://weftly.ai) ### FAQ **Can I edit video with Claude without installing ffmpeg?** Yes. Open chat.weftly.ai in a browser, upload your file, and pick what you want. Weftly runs the transcription, clip-finding, and cutting on its own servers. You never install ffmpeg, write a command, or configure Claude. Pay per job by card. **Do I have to configure Claude or load skills and plugins to edit a video?** No. That setup is one option, not a requirement. If you just want the result, chat.weftly.ai needs no configuration at all. If you already live in Claude, you can add the Weftly MCP server so the agent does the work without burning your tokens on ffmpeg. Both skip the local setup. **How much does it cost to edit a video this way?** Pay per job, no subscription. Transcripts are $0.50 audio and $1.00 video. Summaries are $0.75 and $1.25. Find Clips is $2.00 and returns ranked candidates. Each clip you cut, horizontal or 9:16 vertical, is $0.50. **Why does editing video with Claude and ffmpeg directly use so many tokens?** When Claude drives ffmpeg itself, it reads files, writes commands, checks output, and retries when a filtergraph fails. Every step is tokens. Weftly does the processing on its own servers, so the agent just calls a tool and gets the result back. Far fewer tokens for the same output. **Is the DIY Claude plus ffmpeg approach a bad idea?** No. If you enjoy configuring Claude, maintaining ffmpeg, and spending tokens to edit, that path works and gives you full control. It is just more overhead than most solo creators want for one video a week. Weftly is for the people who want the result, not the maintenance. **Do I need an account to use chat.weftly.ai?** No. Weftly is pay-per-job. Upload a file, pay for the job, download the result. **Who makes Weftly?** Weftly is built by the team behind The Woven Record, a grassroots news site. We needed local journalists to be able to turn raw footage into video stories without learning editing software, so we built chat.weftly.ai. We edit our own videos and demos with the Weftly MCP server. --- # Blog: From Raw Multicam Footage to a Published Video, Without Touching a Timeline URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/multicam-to-published-no-timeline/ Published: 2026-06-02 Tags: claude, weftly, video-editing, clips, workflow, content-creators, small-creators Author: Weftly Team > AI video editing with Claude and Weftly: how we took raw multicam footage to a published video with auto thumbnail, captions, chyrons, and filler removal. Every creator knows the trap: you capture something meaningful, then lose a weekend to editing. This week we set out to prove a different workflow: one where the storyteller stays focused on the story and the tooling handles the rest.
The finished piece: thumbnail, captions, chyrons, end card, and the tightened cut, all produced by Weftly and Claude skills and plugins.
We started with our usual candid two-person conversation format about how The Woven Record began. The raw footage came from multiple camera angles, stitched into one longer recording by our **multi-camera edit** plugin: no manual syncing, no timeline juggling. That full recording was all we uploaded to Weftly. From there, every step ran through **Weftly** and a handful of free [**Claude** skills and plugins](https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins): - **Weftly found and cut the clip.** Its clip finder ranked the strongest moments in the full recording and surfaced this one, and the cutter pulled it out. The video you are watching is itself a Weftly clip, not a hand-trimmed export. Clips are one of our core products: find the moments, cut each for a few cents, no re-upload. - **Weftly transcribed** the clip into a word-level transcript, the backbone for everything downstream. - The **thumbnail** skill picked the most engaging frame and dropped it on a branded lower-third for YouTube. - A **chyron** surfaced our call to action, journalist@wovenrecord.com, exactly when it was spoken. - A "Made with Weftly" lower-third and a branded **end card**, built from our brand assets, closed the video. - Finally, the **filler-remover** skill used that transcript to cut the *ums*, *uhs*, and false starts, trimming seven seconds of dead weight. The entire piece was produced by Weftly and our Claude skills and plugins: thumbnail, captions, overlays, end card, and the final cut. No editing suite. No render farm. Just a conversation in, and a publish-ready video out. **What's shipped today, and what's next.** The free plugins linked above cover the Weftly essentials: transcription, summaries, clip finding and cutting, and skills for blog and social drafts. The video-craft steps you see in this post, **multi-camera edit**, **thumbnail generation**, **chyrons**, and **editing video directly from the transcript**, are on our roadmap. Here's our promise: **everything we used to make this video will be available to you too, either as a Weftly product or as a free Claude plugin.** Nothing here stays an in-house-only trick. We post progress to the public plugins repo as features land, and you can sign up for updates at [weftly.ai](https://weftly.ai). Sign up in June and every job you run this month is 100% free. This one's personal. In the clip itself, we talk about why we started The Woven Record and why we had to scale, the same reason Weftly exists: > We built this because we needed to scale. We need to be able to go from raw > video to published stories without losing a weekend or more. If you're a small creator, that's the whole point: your job is to *simplify* the path from idea to audience. These tools exist for *empowering creators* to spend their hours where they matter: telling stories, not trimming clips. ### FAQ **What tools made this video?** Weftly handled the clipping, transcription, and media processing, and Claude skills and plugins handled the rest: a multi-camera edit to build the source recording, Weftly's clip finder and cutter to pull this moment from it, a thumbnail generator, lower-third chyrons, a branded end card, and a filler-word remover. No traditional editing suite was used. Weftly also loudness-normalizes the audio on every clip it generates, to -14 LUFS / -1.5 dBTP, the level YouTube, Spotify, and podcast apps target. That means your clips play at a consistent, professional volume across platforms with no manual mixing, and the true-peak ceiling keeps loud moments from distorting. **Do I have to edit the video myself?** No. The point of this workflow is that you stay focused on the conversation. You provide the raw footage; Weftly and Claude produce the transcript, thumbnail, captions, overlays, end card, and the tightened final cut. **How does filler removal work without manual cutting?** Weftly returns a word-level transcript with per-word timestamps. The filler-remover skill finds the ums, uhs, and false starts, then the exact spans are cut from the video automatically. Here it trimmed about seven seconds, and the overlays were re-timed to match. Full editing by transcript, where you cut and rearrange the video just by editing the words, is next up on our roadmap, with a target release of mid-June 2026. --- # Blog: We Built Weftly Because Making One Clip Shouldn't Take Three Apps URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/one-clip-shouldnt-take-three-apps/ Published: 2026-05-31 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: clips, short-form, reels, tiktok, workflow Author: Weftly Team > Turning a long video into one short-form clip usually means an editor, a reformatter, and a scheduler. Weftly does the whole thing in one upload — find the moment, cut it, publish it — for about the price of a latte. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** Publishing to YouTube is currently switched off. The clip is delivered as a file you upload yourself. We've all been there. You've got a great long-form video and you want a clip for Reels. So you open your editor to find the moment, cut it, export it, reformat it for vertical, open your scheduler, upload it again, write the caption, and repeat for the next clip. Don't you wonder why this takes three apps and hours of work for thirty seconds of content? We did. We built Weftly because this workflow is broken. Too many tools. Too many subscriptions. Too much time spent on the part that isn't actually making content.
One upload at chat.weftly.ai — Weftly finds the moments, cuts and frames the clip, and publishes it.
## One Upload, One Workflow The demo above shows what it looks like when it all happens in one place. Upload your video at [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) and Weftly handles the rest. It finds your best clip moments automatically, scores them for engagement, and explains its thinking. Then it lets you pick the one you want, crops and frames it for your target platform, and can publish it to YouTube with a summary and transcript already attached. One upload. One workflow. Done in minutes. ## Vertical and Horizontal, Whichever You Need Get vertical clips for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Get horizontal clips for YouTube. No account. No subscription. No more juggling three different tools. Pay per job, and the whole thing — find your clips, cut them, publish — runs you about the price of a latte. [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) — no account, no subscription required. ### FAQ **Do I need an account or subscription to use Weftly?** No. There's no account and no subscription. Weftly is pay-per-job — you upload a video at chat.weftly.ai and pay only for the jobs you run. **What platforms can Weftly make clips for?** Vertical 9:16 clips for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and horizontal 16:9 clips for YouTube. Clips are cut, framed, and formatted for the platform you're targeting. **How much does it cost to go from a raw video to a published clip?** The whole flow, finding your clips and cutting them, runs about the price of a latte. You pay per job with no subscription and no minimum. **Can Weftly publish the clip for me?** Weftly finds the moment, cuts the clip, and returns it as a file with a summary and transcript available. Publishing to YouTube from Weftly is currently switched off, so you upload the file to your platform yourself. --- # Blog: How to Edit Videos with an MCP Server: A Step-by-Step Guide URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/how-to-edit-videos-with-mcp-server/ Published: 2026-05-27 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: mcp, claude, video-editing, ai-agents, how-to, creators Author: Weftly Team > Connect the Weftly MCP server to Claude or any MCP host, then ask. Transcripts, summaries, clips, and vertical shorts come back in minutes. Pay per job, no subscription, no API keys. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** `extract_clip` and `extract_vertical_clip` have since merged into one tool, `clips_from_job`, where you pick `orientation` (horizontal or vertical) and `output` (files or reel). Vertical clips now have per-profile length caps: 240 seconds for TikTok, 180 for Reels, 60 for Stories. The first time Claude finds the best clips in your video, cuts vertical shorts, writes the show notes, and pays for each job without pausing once, you laugh. To make it happen, connect the Weftly MCP server (`api.weftly.ai/mcp`) to your AI host, then ask. Setup is three commands and a few dollars.
From the demo: "Weftly offers an MCP server. Here, we're doing multiple jobs in one shot in Claude. We want to generate a specific transcript format, get the summary, and find the best clips, all from a local file. Claude uses the Weftly MCP server with parallel jobs, pays with mppx, and all the results are ready in a couple of minutes."
Isn't that demo cool? The first time I used the Weftly MCP server, I had a huge smile on my face. You just ask for the files you want. No tabs to switch to. No keys to paste. The agent calls, the agent pays, the agent comes back with the work done. Here is how to set it up yourself. ## What You Need One MCP-compatible AI host: Claude Desktop, claude.ai, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, or Goose. A source file up to 5 GB (MP4, MOV, WebM, or audio formats). Pay with a `mppx` wallet funded with a few dollars of USDC on the Tempo network. The wallet is the part that feels like magic, because the agent signs and pays on its own with no interruption. You can still pay for each job with a credit card if you prefer. That is the entire prerequisite list. No account on weftly.ai, no API key, no signup. ## Step 1: Connect the Server The endpoint is the same in every host: ``` https://api.weftly.ai/mcp ``` **Claude Desktop or claude.ai:** Settings, Integrations, Add custom connector, paste, save. Restart. **Claude Code:** the official plugin wires up the server and the payment signer in one shot. ``` /plugin marketplace add woven-record-media/weftly-plugins /plugin install weftly-setup@weftly /weftly-setup:weftly-setup --wallet ``` **Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Goose, anything else:** add the URL as a standard MCP Streamable HTTP server. No session ID, no registration. ## Step 2: Ask for the Clips Open your host and say: > Find the best three short-form clips in this episode: `/path/to/episode.mp4` Claude calls `find_clips` ($2.00). Weftly transcribes the video as a free byproduct of that call and returns ranked candidates with timestamps and hook text. The transcript comes back in the same response, so you do not pay for it twice. The first paid call triggers a `payment_required` response. In a terminal host with `mppx` configured, the client signs and retries on its own. You do not see the moment happen. If you want to pay with a credit card, a Stripe Checkout link appears, you paste it into your browser and pay there. ## Step 3: Cut What You Want Tell your AI tool which clips and formats you want to create: > Cut a vertical clip from 12:30 to 14:00, TikTok primary format, and one > for Instagram reels `extract_vertical_clip` runs ($0.50 per cut). Weftly reads the source from storage, trims, re-encodes at specified format with loudness-normalized audio, returns a download URL. No re-upload. You have 72 hours of free reuse on the parent video, which is enough to cut as many shorts as you can think of. A long podcast turned into five vertical shorts: $2.00 + (5 × $0.50) = $4.50, end to end. ## Step 4: Show Notes and Summaries (Optional) For show notes or a blog draft, two options: - Call `summarize` ($0.75 audio, $1.25 video) for a Claude-written summary plus a word-level SRT. - Or, if you already ran `find_clips`, just ask the agent to summarize the transcript it already has. That part is free. ## A Worked Example ``` You: Here is the episode. Find five short-form clips, cut them as 9:16 vertical for TikTok, and write a 300-word blog summary. Claude: [find_clips] $2.00 [extract_vertical_clip × 5] $2.50 [drafts blog post from transcript] free Done. Five MP4 shorts attached, blog post below. ``` Total: **$4.50**. About fifteen minutes for a sixty-minute episode. For the full cost picture against subscription tools, see [the 2026 podcast post-production cost comparison](/blog/cost-to-post-produce-a-podcast-2026/). ## How Payment Stays Out of the Way The Weftly MCP server uses the Machine Payments Protocol. Every paid call returns a payment challenge, and your host handles it one of two ways. With `mppx` and a funded Tempo wallet, the client signs the challenge locally and the call retries automatically. The agent never pauses. Weftly never sees your private key. Without one, the challenge includes a Stripe Checkout URL. Pay by card or Apple Pay, and the agent picks up where it stopped. Either way, you never paste an API key and you never sign up for an account. Pay per call is the auth model. ## Things That Occasionally Go Sideways **Agent does not see Weftly tools.** Restart the host. Claude Desktop and Claude Code load MCP servers at startup. **Stripe Checkout link will not open.** Some hosts suppress inline links. Copy the URL from the tool response, open it in a browser, then ask the agent to retry with the same `job_id`. **Vertical clip looks off-center.** Ask the agent to enable subject-aware reframing on the next call. The encoder will track the active speaker. **Job hangs.** Ask the agent to call `get_job_status(job_id)`. The response shows the current pipeline stage. Typical podcast-length input finishes within ten minutes. --- **MCP endpoint:** `api.weftly.ai/mcp` · **Setup guide:** [weftly.ai/mcp](/mcp/) · **Claude Code plugin:** [github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins](https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins) · Pay per job · No subscription · [weftly.ai](https://weftly.ai) ### FAQ **What is an MCP server for video editing?** An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server exposes video tools to an AI agent like Claude over a standard interface. The Weftly MCP server gives any MCP-compatible host transcription, summarization, clip discovery, and clip extraction tools. The agent calls the tool, the server processes the file, and the result comes back as text or a downloadable video. **How do I edit a video with Claude?** Add the Weftly MCP server (api.weftly.ai/mcp) to Claude Desktop or claude.ai under Settings, Integrations, Add custom connector. Then ask Claude to find clips, transcribe, or cut a vertical short from a video file. Claude calls the tool, you pay $0.50 to $2.00 per job by card or USDC, and the result is returned in chat. **Which MCP clients work with Weftly?** Claude Desktop, claude.ai, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Goose, and any other host that supports MCP Streamable HTTP. The server is stateless, requires no session ID, and ships a full tools/list response so clients discover capabilities at runtime. **Do I need to write code to edit video with an MCP server?** No. Once the MCP server is connected, you ask the agent in plain English. The Claude Code plugin handles setup and payment in three commands. Browser MCP hosts open a Stripe Checkout link when payment is needed and the agent resumes once you have paid. **How much does it cost to edit a video with the Weftly MCP server?** Pay per job, no subscription. Transcripts are $0.50 audio and $1.00 video. Summaries are $0.75 and $1.25. Find Clips is $2.00 per video and returns ranked candidates. Each horizontal or 9:16 vertical clip you cut is $0.50, with no re-upload required for 72 hours. **Can the agent reuse the source video across multiple cuts?** Yes. After find_clips runs, the source video stays in Weftly storage for 72 hours. Pass the find_clips job_id as source_job_id to clips_from_job, choosing horizontal or vertical orientation, and each output file is $0.50 with no re-upload and no re-transcription. This is the supported pattern for producing a batch of shorts from one long video. --- # Blog: What Does It Actually Cost to Post-Produce a Podcast Episode in 2026? URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/cost-to-post-produce-a-podcast-2026/ Published: 2026-05-25 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: podcasters, pricing, transcription, descript, castmagic, comparison Author: Weftly Team > The honest math behind transcription, show notes, and clip creation, and why most creators are paying for tools they barely use. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** Extract Clip and Extract Vertical Clip are now one tool, `clips_from_job`, at $0.50 per output file. Publishing to YouTube is currently switched off. The $1.75 publish line and the $6.50 total below include it. If you've ever looked at your credit card statement and thought "wait, how am I spending $60 a month on podcast software?", you're not imagining it. The subscription model has become the default for creator tools, and most podcasters are paying for full monthly plans even when they publish twice a month at most. This article breaks down the real cost, per episode, of the most common post-production workflows in 2026. We'll look at what it costs on Descript, Castmagic, Rev, and Otter.ai, and then show you what the same workflow costs on a pay-per-job model. The numbers are more different than you'd expect. --- ## What "Post-Production" Actually Means for Podcasters Before the math, it's worth being specific about what we're calculating. A typical podcast post-production workflow involves: 1. **Transcription:** converting the audio or video recording to text 2. **Show notes / summary:** a written summary for the episode page, newsletter, or SEO 3. **Clip finding:** identifying the best 60–90 second moments for social content 4. **Clip extraction:** cutting those moments into shareable vertical video for Reels, TikTok, or Shorts Some podcasters do all four. Many just do transcription and show notes. We'll model both. --- ## The Subscription Tools: Real Cost Per Episode ### Descript: $24/month (Creator plan) Descript is the gold standard for creator post-production. It's a full editing suite: you can edit audio by editing text, remove filler words, overdub, and export directly. For a certain type of creator, it's irreplaceable. But here's the math problem: Descript charges $24/month whether you publish one episode or ten. | Episodes/month | Effective cost per episode | |---|---| | 1 | $24.00 | | 2 | $12.00 | | 4 | $6.00 | | 8 | $3.00 | If you publish weekly, $3/episode is genuinely competitive. But most independent podcasters don't publish weekly, and even if they do, they're often paying for features they never touch (overdub, screen recording, the full video editor). You're not paying for transcription. You're paying for an editing suite and getting transcription as a side effect. ### Castmagic: $39/month (Starter plan) Castmagic is purpose-built for content repurposing: it generates transcripts, show notes, social posts, episode summaries, and more from your upload. It's genuinely good at what it does. But $39/month is a real commitment for creators who aren't publishing constantly. | Episodes/month | Effective cost per episode | |---|---| | 1 | $39.00 | | 2 | $19.50 | | 4 | $9.75 | | 8 | $4.88 | At four episodes a month you're paying nearly $10/episode for content you could produce in one sitting. At one or two episodes a month, which describes most independent podcasters, you're paying $20–39 for a workflow that takes 20 minutes. ### Rev: $0.25/minute (AI transcription) Rev is the most straightforward pricing model in the space: you pay per minute of audio. No subscription, no seat fees. A 45-minute episode costs $11.25. An hour-long episode costs $15.00. Rev's AI transcription is fast and accurate. But Rev *only* does transcription, you still need another tool for show notes, clip finding, and clip extraction. If you want a complete workflow, you're stacking costs across multiple platforms. ### Otter.ai: $16.99/month (Pro plan) Otter is primarily a meeting transcription tool that podcasters sometimes repurpose. The Pro plan removes the 30-minute recording limit and adds AI summaries. At $16.99/month for two episodes, you're paying $8.50/episode, but again, Otter doesn't find clips or extract video. It's a transcription and summary tool, not a full creator workflow. --- ## A Note on Free Tiers Most of these tools advertise free tiers, and they're worth acknowledging honestly, because they exist, but they're also where comparison shopping gets genuinely confusing. **Descript** has a free plan at $0. What you actually get: 60 media minutes per month, 100 AI credits as a one-time grant (not monthly), 720p exports only, and watermarked video. Every AI feature (Studio Sound, filler word removal, clip creation, Underlord) is listed as "Limited" on the pricing page, but Descript doesn't define what "limited" means publicly. You have to create an account and start using it to find out where the walls are. **Otter.ai** also has a free Basic plan. The headline number is 300 transcription minutes per month, which sounds reasonable. The detail that's easy to miss: you can import and transcribe only **3 audio or video files total, for the lifetime of the account**, not per month, ever. After those three files, that feature is gone unless you upgrade. Both free tiers require you to create an account (and hand over your email address) before you can access them or understand exactly what you're getting. That's not a criticism of the tools; it's just the reality of how free tiers work. They're designed to get you into an account so the product can convert you to a paid plan. Which is fine, if that's the experience you want. Weftly has no free tier. What it has instead is no account, no email, no credit card on file, and no subscription to cancel. You pay only for the jobs you run, and you can pay with USDC on the Tempo network via MPP using the [Weftly MCP server](https://weftly.ai/mcp/), if you'd rather not put a credit card in at all. The tradeoff is straightforward: you don't get to try before you pay, but your first job costs $0.75 and you're not committed to anything beyond that. --- ## The Pay-Per-Job Model: What You Actually Use, What You Actually Pay Weftly charges per job with no subscription. Here's what each step of the workflow costs: | Job | Audio | Video | What you get | |---|---|---|---| | Transcription | $0.50 | $1.00 | Full transcript (plain text, timestamped, word-level timestamped) | | Summarization | $0.75 | $1.25 | Summary/show notes **+ full transcript in all formats** | | Find Clips (AI highlight detection) | n/a | $2.00 | Timestamped list of best moments | | Extract Clip | $0.50 | $0.50 | Horizontal clip cut from a specific timestamp | | Extract Vertical Clip | $0.50 | $0.50 | Vertical 9:16 clip for Reels, TikTok, Shorts | | Publish to YouTube | n/a | $1.75 | Direct upload to your YouTube channel | One thing worth noting on the summarize job: it isn't just show notes. You get the full transcript (plain text, timestamped, and word-level timestamped) bundled in. If you need both outputs, you're paying $0.75 (audio) or $1.25 (video) for both, not $0.50 + $0.75. Let's run the same episode math. ### Scenario A: Audio podcast, transcript + show notes only You record a 45-minute interview. You want a full transcript (plain text, timestamped, and word-level timestamped) plus a summary to use as show notes. | Job | Cost | |---|---| | Summarization, audio (includes transcript in all formats) | $0.75 | | **Total per episode** | **$0.75** | That's one job, not two. The summarize job returns the show notes *and* every transcript format Weftly generates (Text, VTT, SRT, JSON, and word-level JSON). At $0.75/episode, you'd need to publish **32 episodes a month** before you matched the cost of Descript's cheapest plan. That's more than one episode per day. ### Scenario B: Video podcast, full workflow You record a 45-minute video interview. You want a transcript, show notes, three vertical clips for social, and to publish the video to YouTube. | Job | Cost | |---|---| | Summarization, video (includes transcript in all formats) | $1.25 | | Find Clips | $2.00 | | Extract 3 vertical clips (3 × $0.50) | $1.50 | | Publish to YouTube | $1.75 | | **Total per episode** | **$6.50** | That's a full post-production run (transcript, show notes, social clips, and YouTube publish) for one episode. Compare that to Castmagic at $39/month for the same output, or stitching together Rev + a clip tool + a publishing tool at unpredictable combined costs. --- ## Side-by-Side: One Episode, Full Workflow | Tool | Monthly fee | Cost for 1 episode/month | Cost for 4 episodes/month | |---|---|---|---| | Descript (Creator) | $24.00 | $24.00 | $6.00 | | Castmagic (Starter) | $39.00 | $39.00 | $9.75 | | Rev (AI, transcription only) | None | $11.25 | $45.00 | | Otter.ai (Pro, no clips) | $16.99 | $16.99 | $4.25 | | **Weftly: audio, transcript + notes** | **None** | **$0.75** | **$3.00** | | **Weftly: video, full workflow** | **None** | **$6.50** | **$26.00** | *Rev costs based on a 45-minute episode at $0.25/min. Weftly full workflow includes summarization (which bundles the transcript), 3 vertical clips, and YouTube publish.*

--- ## When Subscriptions Make Sense To be fair: if you publish weekly or more, subscriptions start to make economic sense, especially Descript, which includes a full editing suite that goes well beyond what any API-based tool offers. The math tilts toward subscriptions when: - You publish 6+ episodes a month - You need hands-on editing (filler word removal, overdub, visual editing) - You want one interface that handles recording through final export The math tilts toward pay-per-job when: - You publish 1–4 times a month - Your editing is done in a separate tool (Adobe Premiere, DaVinci, Logic) - You only need the output: the transcript, the summary, the clips, not the editing environment - You're using AI agents or automation pipelines that call tools programmatically --- ## No Account, No Credit Card, No Subscription One thing worth noting that doesn't show up in any pricing comparison: Weftly doesn't require you to create an account. You upload a file, pay for the job, get the output. Files are automatically deleted within 24 hours - 72 hours for find clips so you have more time to make your editing choices. If you'd rather not put a credit card in at all, you can pay with USDC on the Tempo network via MPP, accessible through the [Weftly MCP server](https://weftly.ai/mcp/). That means your entire post-production workflow, from upload to clips to YouTube publish, can run through an AI agent pipeline with crypto payment rails and no traditional billing relationship required. For most creators, the no-account and no-subscription parts are what matter. For developers and teams building agentic workflows, the MCP + USDC path is a different kind of unlock entirely. --- ## The Bottom Line Most creators are paying for a subscription seat when they should be paying for the jobs they actually run. If you publish two episodes a month and use Castmagic, you're spending $234 a year. The same workflow on Weftly (transcript, show notes, three clips, YouTube publish) costs $156/year, with no commitment, no renewal, and nothing charged in the months you don't publish. The subscription model was built for daily users. If that's you, great. If it's not, you're subsidizing someone else's usage. ### FAQ **How much does it cost to transcribe a podcast episode?** It depends on the tool. Rev charges $0.25/minute for AI transcription, so a 45-minute episode costs $11.25. Subscription tools like Descript ($24/month) and Otter.ai ($16.99/month) include transcription as part of a broader suite. Weftly charges $0.50 for a transcript-only job (audio) or $1.00 (video). If you also want a summary, the summarize job costs $0.75 (audio) or $1.25 (video) and includes the full transcript (plain text, timestamped, and word-level timestamped) bundled in. **What's the cheapest way to get podcast show notes in 2026?** Weftly's audio summarization job costs $0.75 per episode: no account, no subscription, and it bundles the full transcript in multiple formats (plain text, timestamped, word-level timestamped) at no extra charge. Castmagic and Descript both include AI show notes generation in their monthly plans, but at $39 and $24/month respectively, you'd need to publish 32+ episodes a month for those plans to undercut $0.75/episode. **Is pay-per-use transcription better than a subscription?** It depends on how often you publish. If you publish weekly or more, monthly subscriptions often work out cheaper and typically include more features. If you publish 1–4 times a month, pay-per-job almost always costs less. **Does Weftly offer a free trial?** Weftly doesn't have a free tier. What it has instead is no account, no subscription, and no commitment: your first job costs $0.75 for an audio summary (which includes the full transcript), and you can pay with a card or with USDC via MPP if you'd prefer not to use traditional payment. Most tools' free tiers require account creation and come with limits that aren't fully disclosed until you're inside the product. **How much does it cost to create short-form clips from a podcast episode?** On Weftly: $2.00 to find the best moments in a video, plus $0.50 per clip to extract them as vertical video for Reels, TikTok, or Shorts. Three clips would cost $3.50 total. Castmagic includes AI clip suggestions in its $39/month plan; Descript includes clip creation in its $24/month Creator plan. --- # Blog: Accurate, Affordable Transcription for Lawyers, Journalists, and Researchers — No Subscription Required URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/accurate-affordable-transcription/ Published: 2026-05-24 Tags: transcription, journalism, legal, research, professionals Author: Weftly Team > How professionals who need accurate transcripts on irregular volume can use Weftly to pay per file instead of locking into monthly software. Transcription is one of those tasks that sounds simple until you're staring down a two-hour deposition recording at 10 PM and a filing deadline in the morning. Whether you're a lawyer reviewing client interviews, a journalist working from recorded sources, or a qualitative researcher coding hours of focus group audio, accurate transcription is not optional — and waiting days for a human transcription service isn't always an option either. Weftly delivers fast, word-level, timestamped transcripts from audio and video files in minutes. No subscription, no account, and no commitment beyond the job in front of you. ## Legal Transcription Without the Overhead Lawyers and paralegals routinely need transcripts of client meetings, recorded witness statements, depositions, arbitration proceedings, and internal case review sessions. Traditional legal transcription services charge by the audio minute, lock you into monthly minimums, or require a turnaround window that doesn't fit litigation timelines. Weftly's audio transcription starts at $0.50, and video transcription is $1.00. Upload an MP3, MP4, WAV, or M4A file and receive a clean, timestamped transcript in minutes — formatted and ready to drop into your case management system, brief, or discovery folder. Pay by card via Stripe. No retainer, no setup fee, no subscription. ## Interview Transcription for Journalists and Researchers Journalists working on long-form features or investigative pieces know that transcribing recorded interviews is the single most time-consuming part of the research process. Qualitative researchers face the same wall — hours of recorded interviews, focus groups, and field sessions that need to be transcribed before analysis can begin. Weftly handles MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and WebM audio files up to 2 GB, and MP4, MOV, and WebM video files up to 5 GB. Word-level timestamps mean you can jump to any moment in the source recording from the transcript itself — invaluable when you need to pull a direct quote or verify a speaker attribution. Most transcripts finish in 1–5 minutes for typical interview-length recordings. ## Corporate Meeting Transcription and Conference Call Summaries For business teams, HR professionals, and consultants, Weftly's Summarize tool ($0.75 for audio, $1.25 for video) pairs a concise AI-generated recap with the full timestamped transcript in a single job. One upload produces both the searchable verbatim record and the executive summary — useful for board meetings, client calls, performance interviews, and compliance documentation. ## Data Handling: What Weftly Does — and Doesn't — Cover Weftly auto-deletes uploaded files after 24 hours. They are not stored, analyzed, or retained beyond the time needed to complete your job. No account means no profile tied to your content. That said, it's worth being direct about the trust model: Weftly is a cloud processing service, which puts it in roughly the same category as Notion, Dropbox, or Google Drive. For most professional transcription work — journalist interviews, research sessions, business meetings, HR documentation — that's a reasonable and widely accepted standard. For certain categories of sensitive material, it is not sufficient on its own: - **Attorney-client privileged work product** — uploading privileged recordings to any third-party cloud service without a signed data processing agreement may implicate your ethical obligations, depending on your jurisdiction and bar rules. - **NDA-protected or source-sensitive reporting** — journalists with confidential sources or under non-disclosure obligations should apply the same judgment they would to any cloud tool. - **HIPAA-covered or PII-bearing content** — Weftly does not currently offer a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). If your recordings contain protected health information or regulated personally identifiable information, an additional compliance layer is required before use. If your work falls into any of these categories, consult your organization's data governance policy or legal counsel before uploading. For everything else, Weftly's 24-hour auto-delete and no-account model offers a clean, low-footprint way to get accurate transcripts fast. ## Already Using Claude or Another AI Tool? Add Weftly to Your Workflow If you're already working inside Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, or another MCP-compatible AI assistant, you don't need to leave your workflow to get a transcript. Weftly is available as an MCP server — add it once as a custom connector and transcription becomes a native part of how you work. In Claude Desktop, go to **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** and paste the [Weftly MCP server](https://weftly.ai/mcp/) URL: ``` https://api.weftly.ai/mcp ``` From that point on, you can ask Claude to transcribe a recording, summarize a deposition, or pull key points from a client meeting — all without switching tabs or uploading to a separate service. The first time you run a paid job, Weftly returns a Stripe Checkout link. Pay by card and your AI assistant continues automatically. For legal teams, researchers, and journalists who already use AI tools to draft, analyze, and organize their work, this means transcription slots directly into the same conversation — no copy-pasting between tools, no broken context. Builders who want the full walkthrough should read [Add Video Transcription and Clipping to Your AI Workflow](/blog/add-transcription-clipping-to-ai-workflow/). Weftly is also available via REST API for teams that want to integrate transcription into a document management system, case management platform, or custom internal workflow. ## Get Started in Under a Minute No software to install. No account to create. Visit [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai), upload your audio or video file, and your transcript is ready before your next cup of coffee. Accurate transcription. Transparent pricing. No subscription. Try Weftly today. If you're a creator using video for podcasts or short-form social, the companion post is [Weftly is the Post-Production Tool Small Creators Have Been Waiting For](/blog/weftly-post-production-tool-small-creators/). ### FAQ **How accurate is Weftly transcription?** Weftly uses OpenAI's Whisper for transcription, the same model that powers most of the high-end transcription services. Quality is comparable to subscription services that charge $0.25-$0.40 per minute, but Weftly is priced per file ($0.50 audio, $1.00 video) regardless of length. **Are my files private?** Yes. Files are stored encrypted, deleted automatically (4 hours for one-off jobs, 72 hours when used as a clip source), and never used to train models. Weftly is built for professionals who handle sensitive interviews, depositions, and source material. **What output formats do I get?** Every transcription produces SRT (timestamped subtitles), plain text, VTT, and a word-level JSON with per-word timestamps. The word-level format is what makes pull-quotes and clip identification fast. **Can I use Weftly without an account?** Yes. Browser jobs require no account. Pay by card per file. For programmatic use you can also pay with USDC on the Tempo network through the Machine Payments Protocol. --- # Blog: Add Video Transcription and Clipping to Your AI Workflow — Without Building Any of It Yourself URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/add-transcription-clipping-to-ai-workflow/ Published: 2026-05-24 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: mcp, claude, ai-agents, developers, automation Author: Weftly Team > Wire Weftly into Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible AI agent in minutes. Per-call payment, no API keys, no infrastructure to run. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** `extract_clip` and `extract_vertical_clip` have since merged into one tool, `clips_from_job`, where you pick `orientation` (horizontal or vertical) and `output` (files or reel). If you're already working in Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, or another MCP-compatible AI tool, you've probably hit the same wall: your agent can reason, write, and orchestrate — but the moment a task involves raw audio or video, there's nothing to hand it to. Building a video processing pipeline from scratch means spinning up infrastructure, managing compute, stitching together transcription APIs, handling file storage, and burning through LLM API credits just to glue it together. For most workflows, that's not a project you want to take on. Weftly is an MCP server for video that slots directly into the tools you're already using. One endpoint. No infrastructure. No API keys to manage. No compute bill at the end of the month.

## What Weftly Gives Your Agent Add `api.weftly.ai/mcp` as a connector in your MCP client and your agent immediately gains access to five production-grade video tools: - **Transcribe** — word-level, timestamped SRT transcripts from audio or video ($0.50 audio / $1.00 video) - **Summarize** — AI-generated summary plus the full transcript in a single call ($0.75 audio / $1.25 video) - **Find Clips** — ranks the most compelling moments in a long video by impact score, with timestamps and hook text ($2.00) - **Extract Clip** — cuts a horizontal segment from a prior job, no re-upload required ($0.50/cut) - **Vertical Clip** — cuts a 9:16 short ready for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts from a prior job ($0.50/cut) Each tool is a single MCP call. Weftly handles the transcription model, the video processing pipeline, file storage, and output delivery. Your agent asks for the result; Weftly returns it. ## The Free Claude Code Plugin: One Command to Wire Everything Up For Claude Code users, Weftly publishes an official free plugin that handles the entire setup — MCP registration, mppx wallet configuration, and payment signing — in a few commands. ``` /plugin marketplace add woven-record-media/weftly-plugins /plugin install weftly-setup@weftly /weftly-setup:weftly-setup --wallet ``` That's it. After a Claude Code restart, you have: - `weftly:transcribe`, `weftly:summarize`, `weftly:find_clips`, `weftly:extract_clip`, `weftly:extract_vertical_clip` — live from the [Weftly MCP server](https://weftly.ai/mcp/) - `mppx:sign` — a local signing proxy that lets Claude handle payment challenges automatically, without any human intervention The plugin also runs `npx mppx skills add` to sync mppx's bundled skills into Claude's skill library. Those skills teach Claude the payment dance — when Weftly returns a `payment_required` challenge, Claude knows to call `mppx:sign`, get the credential, and retry the tool call automatically. New Weftly tools added to the MCP server are picked up on the next restart with no plugin update required. The plugin source is MIT-licensed and open on [GitHub](https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins). ## Payment That Doesn't Break Your Workflow This is where MCP tools typically introduce friction: a payment step that interrupts the agent, forces a context switch, or requires manual intervention on every job. Weftly supports the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) to eliminate exactly that. When your agent calls a paid Weftly tool, the server returns a payment challenge alongside the job details. If you've set up an mppx wallet funded with USDC on the Tempo network, your MCP client signs the challenge and retries automatically — no browser tab, no interruption, no human in the loop. The agent pays, the job runs, and you get the result. Weftly never sees your private key; signing happens entirely on your machine. Most jobs run $0.50–$2.00. Fund a wallet once with a few dollars and it covers a significant volume of work. On-chain receipts are available for every transaction. Don't want to set up a wallet? No problem. Weftly also supports card payments through Stripe Checkout. When you're working in a browser-based MCP host — Claude Desktop, claude.ai, or VS Code Copilot — the payment challenge comes back as a Stripe Checkout link instead. Click it, pay by card or Apple/Google Pay, and your agent picks up where it left off. No wallet, no USDC, no crypto required. ## No Infrastructure. No API Keys. No Compute. This is the part worth dwelling on. Standing up a video processing stack yourself means: - A transcription provider and its API key rotation - A video encoding service or self-managed FFmpeg workers - Object storage with lifecycle policies - A job queue and status polling layer - A payment integration if you want to run it as a service Weftly is all of that, already built and running. You don't manage the LLM that generates summaries. You don't pay for idle compute between jobs. You don't hold client files longer than needed — for MCP / MPP agent jobs, Weftly auto-deletes uploaded files within **4 hours** (72 hours for Find Clips jobs, to keep the source available for derivative `extract_clip` and `extract_vertical_clip` cuts). Your agent just calls the tool. ## Adding Weftly to Your MCP Client The setup is the same across any MCP-compatible host: ``` https://api.weftly.ai/mcp ``` In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, go to **Settings → Integrations → Add custom connector** and paste the endpoint. In Cursor, OpenClaw, Goose, or your own client, add it as a standard MCP Streamable HTTP server — no session ID, no registration, no API key. Payment-per-call is the auth. The server exposes a full `tools/list` response with JSON Schema for every tool, so your client can discover capabilities at runtime without reading documentation. The server is stateless — no `Mcp-Session-Id` is issued or required. The browser interface at [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai) is available if you want to run a job manually first and see exactly what a Weftly output looks like before wiring it into an agent workflow. For the broader case for pay-per-job AI tools, see [Weftly is the Post-Production Tool Small Creators Have Been Waiting For](/blog/weftly-post-production-tool-small-creators/). For the professional-services angle, see [Accurate, Affordable Transcription for Lawyers, Journalists, and Researchers](/blog/accurate-affordable-transcription/). --- **MCP endpoint:** `api.weftly.ai/mcp` · **Claude Code plugin:** [github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins](https://github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins) · **OpenAPI spec:** [api.weftly.ai/.well-known/openapi.json](https://api.weftly.ai/.well-known/openapi.json) · Pay per job · No subscription · [weftly.ai](https://weftly.ai) ### FAQ **What is MCP?** The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI agents to external tools and data. Weftly exposes its transcription, summarization, and clip-cutting capabilities as MCP tools, so any MCP-compatible host (Claude, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, etc.) can call them directly. **Do I need API keys to use Weftly's MCP server?** No. The Weftly MCP server uses per-call payment via the Machine Payments Protocol — you pay $0.50 to $2.00 per job at the moment of use, either by card through Stripe or with USDC on Tempo. There is no signup, no API key to manage, and no monthly bill. **How do I install Weftly in Claude Code?** Run `/plugin marketplace add woven-record-media/weftly-plugins` then `/plugin install weftly-setup@weftly` and `/weftly-setup:weftly-setup --wallet `. The plugin wires up MPP signing automatically. The full guide is at weftly.ai/mcp/. **Can my agent reuse a transcript across multiple clip cuts?** Yes. After find_clips runs ($2.00), the source video stays cached for 72 hours. Pass the find_clips job_id as source_job_id to clips_from_job and each output file is $0.50 with no re-upload and no re-transcription. --- # Blog: How to Turn One Video into Clips, Show Notes, and Social Posts with Claude and Weftly URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/from-raw-video-to-published-with-claude-and-weftly/ Published: 2026-05-24 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: claude, mcp, workflow, podcasters, content-creators Author: Weftly Team > A step-by-step walkthrough for turning one raw video into clips, captions, a blog draft, and social posts using Claude and Weftly in a single conversation, with concrete prices and prompts you can copy. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** `extract_clip` and `extract_vertical_clip` have since merged into one tool, `clips_from_job`, where you pick `orientation` (horizontal or vertical) and `output` (files or reel). Publishing to YouTube is currently switched off. The closing note about direct publishing to YouTube is out of date. Most content creators have the same problem at the end of a recording session: the hard part isn't the recording, it's everything that comes after. The transcript, the show notes, the clip for Instagram, the tweet thread, the blog post, the email. Each one is a separate task, in a separate tool, done by hand. Multiply that across a weekly publishing schedule and you're spending more time on post-production than on the content itself. The good news: Claude and [Weftly](https://weftly.ai) can handle the entire pipeline, from raw video file to clips, captions, blog draft, and social posts, in a single conversation. No switching tools. No copy-pasting between tabs. Just a conversation that starts with a video and ends with a content package ready to publish. Here's how to build that workflow for yourself. ## The Setup: Connect Weftly to Claude Before you start, add Weftly to Claude as a custom connector. In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, go to **Settings → Integrations → Add custom connector** and paste: ``` https://api.weftly.ai/mcp ``` If you're using **Claude Code**, the Weftly plugins handle everything. Install the marketplace, then both the setup and editing plugins: ``` /plugin marketplace add woven-record-media/weftly-plugins /plugin install weftly-setup@weftly /weftly-setup:weftly-setup --wallet /plugin install weftly-editing@weftly ``` The `weftly-setup` plugin registers the MCP server and configures automatic payment handling. The `weftly-editing` plugin adds a set of free skills for the writing steps in this workflow, more on those below. After a restart, Claude has everything it needs to run the full pipeline. --- ## Step 1: Drop In Your Raw Video, Get a Summary and Transcript in One Shot Start the conversation by giving Claude your file and telling it what you're building: > *"I just finished recording a 45-minute podcast interview. Here's the file. I want to turn this into show notes, three short-form clips for Reels, a blog post recap, and a few social media captions. Start by summarizing it, I want a one-paragraph episode description, a list of key takeaways, and timestamps for the main topics we covered."* Claude calls `weftly:summarize` on your video ($1.25 for video, $0.75 for audio). Here's the part worth knowing: the Summarize tool returns both the AI-generated summary *and* the full word-level, timestamped transcript in a single job. You don't need to run a separate transcription step first, you get both for the price of one. Claude shapes the summary output into the episode description, bullet-point takeaways, and a timestamped chapter list in exactly the format you asked for. The full transcript is in context and ready to feed into everything that comes next. At this point you already have two publishable assets, a complete transcript and a set of show notes, from one job and one conversation. > **Claude Code shortcut:** If you want to go straight from raw video to a finished blog post without separate steps, the `weftly-editing` plugin includes a `transcribe-and-write-blog-post` command that runs the transcription and blog post in sequence automatically. --- ## Step 2: Find Your Best Clips Now it's time to find the moments worth cutting. Tell Claude what you're looking for: > *"Find the best clips in this video, I want candidates for short-form, ideally moments that work as standalone content even without the context of the full episode."* Claude calls `weftly:find_clips` ($2.00). Weftly analyzes the full video and returns ranked clip candidates with timestamps, hook lines, and impact scores, the moments most likely to perform as standalone short-form content. Depending on the length and variety of your content, you may get back three candidates or five or more. Claude presents the list and you pick the ones you want to cut. > **Claude Code shortcut:** The `weftly-editing` plugin includes an `identify-intro-clip` command that specifically finds the strongest opening moment in your video, useful if you're cutting a trailer or a hook clip to lead with on social. Because the source video is still in Weftly's storage after a `find_clips` job, cutting the actual clips costs $0.50 each and requires no re-upload. Tell Claude which ones you want: > *"Cut clips one and four as vertical 9:16 for Reels, and cut clip two as a horizontal 16:9 for YouTube."* Claude calls `weftly:extract_vertical_clip` and `weftly:extract_clip` back-to-back. You get download links for your chosen cuts within a few minutes. **Total for the full clip pipeline:** $2.00 (find clips) + $0.50 per cut. Three cuts = $3.50; cut all five candidates = $4.50. You only pay for the cuts you actually make. --- ## Step 3: Write the Blog Post You now have a transcript, a summary, and your chosen clips, which means Claude has everything it needs to write a real blog post, not a generic AI summary. > *"Write a 600-word blog post based on this interview. Pull two or three direct quotes from the transcript. The angle should be [topic/theme]. Include a section at the end that mentions the clips are available on Instagram and YouTube."* Because Claude has the actual transcript in context, the blog post is grounded in what was actually said, with accurate quotes, real specifics, and the narrative arc of the conversation. This isn't a hallucinated summary; it's a piece built from the source material. > **Claude Code shortcut:** The `weftly-editing` plugin includes a `write-blog-post` skill that gives Claude a structured approach to turning a Weftly transcript into a polished post. If you've already run the summarize step, point Claude at the transcript and run the skill, it handles formatting, pull quotes, and structure automatically. Ask Claude to also write a short version for your newsletter or a pull-quote callout for your website while it's at it. --- ## Step 4: Write Your Social Posts The last piece of the content package: platform-specific captions and posts for each clip. > *"Write a caption for each of the three clips, one for Instagram Reels, one for TikTok, one for YouTube Shorts. Each should be under 150 characters and include relevant hashtags. Also write a tweet thread (5 tweets) based on the key takeaways from the episode."* Claude writes to format for each platform, Instagram captions with line breaks and hashtags, TikTok text that hooks in the first line, YouTube Shorts descriptions that front-load the keyword. The tweet thread pulls from the takeaways already generated in step 1, so it's consistent with the rest of the content package. --- ## What You End Up With From one 45-minute recording and one Claude conversation: | Asset | How it was made | Approx. cost | |---|---|---| | Episode summary + show notes | `weftly:summarize` | $1.25 | | Word-level transcript | Included with summarize | Included | | Ranked clip candidates (varies) | `weftly:find_clips` | $2.00 | | Vertical clips (9:16) | `weftly:extract_vertical_clip` × cuts | $0.50 each | | Horizontal clips (16:9) | `weftly:extract_clip` × cuts | $0.50 each | | Blog post draft | Claude + `write-blog-post` skill | Included | | Social captions + tweet thread | Claude (from summary + clips) | Included | **Total: from $4.75** (for three cuts, matching the example above) depending on how many clips you choose to cut. One conversation. No switching tools. No managing compute. No API keys. Files auto-delete from Weftly's storage within 24–72 hours. --- ## Making It Yours The workflow above is a starting point. Claude lets you adapt it to your format, your voice, and your publishing schedule on the fly: - **Running a daily show?** Ask Claude to keep the blog post short and the captions punchy. - **Publishing long-form written content?** Ask Claude to expand the transcript into a full interview transcript post with pullout quotes formatted for Medium or Substack. - **Working in multiple languages?** Ask Claude to translate the captions or show notes after generating the English versions. - **Batching episodes?** Run the whole workflow back-to-back in a single session, Weftly's tools are stateless and each job is independent. - **Only need the clips, not the write-ups?** Skip steps 3 and 4 entirely, the summary already gives you the show notes, and the clips are ready to post as-is. - **Want cleaner audio before anything else?** The `weftly-editing` plugin includes a `remove-fillers` command that strips filler words from a transcript, and a `transcribe-and-remove-fillers` command that does both steps in one shot, handy before writing show notes or a blog post from a rough recording. The only thing you bring is the recording. Claude and Weftly handle the rest. --- **Get started:** Add the [Weftly MCP server](https://weftly.ai/mcp/) to Claude, or try the tools without any setup at [chat.weftly.ai](https://chat.weftly.ai). Claude Code users can install the free Weftly plugins from github.com/woven-record-media/weftly-plugins for one-command setup. **How much does it cost to turn one video into a full content package?** Around $4.75 for a typical 45-minute episode with three clips cut: $1.25 to summarize and transcribe, $2.00 to find ranked clip candidates, plus $0.50 per cut (so $1.50 for three cuts). You only pay for the cuts you actually make. **Do I need to re-upload my video for each clip?** No. After find_clips runs, Weftly keeps the source video in storage for 72 hours. Each subsequent clips_from_job call cuts from the cached source for $0.50 per output file, no re-upload and no re-transcription. **What do the Weftly plugins for Claude Code do?** Two free plugins: weftly-setup handles MCP registration and automatic payment signing via mppx, and weftly-editing adds skills for writing blog posts, generating social captions, removing filler words, identifying intro clips, and chaining transcription with downstream steps. **Can Claude write a blog post that actually uses what was said in my video?** Yes. The summarize tool returns the full word-level transcript alongside the AI summary, so Claude has the actual conversation in context. It can pull real quotes, reference specific moments, and write grounded content rather than hallucinating. --- # Blog: Weftly is the Post-Production Tool Small Creators Have Been Waiting For URL: https://weftly.ai/blog/weftly-post-production-tool-small-creators/ Published: 2026-05-24 Updated: 2026-09-30 Tags: creators, post-production, podcasters, youtube, tiktok Author: Weftly Team > An honest look at why pay-per-job AI tools beat subscription post-production software for podcasters, YouTubers, and short-form creators. > **Update, 2026-09-30:** Vertical clips are now capped per profile, not at 90 seconds: 240 seconds for TikTok, 180 for Reels, 60 for Stories. Clip cutting is now one tool, `clips_from_job`. If you've ever spent three hours scrubbing a timeline to find one good clip, you know the math doesn't add up. The content itself takes an hour to record. The editing takes the rest of the day. For solo podcasters, YouTubers, and short-form creators without a production team behind them, post-production is where momentum goes to die. Weftly is built to fix that.
Weftly end-to-end — upload a raw video, get back a transcript, a summary, and TikTok/Reels-ready clips.
## Ship More. Grind Less. Weftly is an AI video transcription, summarization, and clip maker built specifically for creators who are doing it themselves. Drop in a raw audio or video file — MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, WebM — and within minutes you get back a clean, timestamped transcript, a tightly written episode recap, or a ranked list of your best clip moments, ready to cut into TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. The Find Clips tool does the scrubbing for you. AI picks your most compelling 30-second to three-minute moments and scores them by impact. Pick one, hit Extract Vertical Clip, and you have a 9:16 short — center-cropped and caption-ready — in under a minute. No re-upload. No waiting on a new transcript. Just done. For a 30-minute episode, the entire workflow — summary, transcript, and a Reels-ready cut — runs you around $3.25. That's it. ## Pay Per Job. No Subscription, Ever. Weftly is pay-per-job with no account required and no subscription. Audio transcripts start at $0.50. Video transcripts are $1.00. Summarize a podcast for $0.75. Find your best clips for $2.00, then cut each one for $0.50. Pay by card via Stripe or in USDC on Tempo. Solo creators who run a few jobs a month typically spend under $5 — you get exactly what you pay for, nothing more. ## Use It Your Way: Browser, Claude, or Your Favorite AI Tool Weftly meets you wherever you already work. Developers can also hit the REST API directly. The same tools, the same pricing, whichever interface fits your workflow. If you build with AI agents, see [Add Video Transcription and Clipping to Your AI Workflow](/blog/add-transcription-clipping-to-ai-workflow/) for the MCP setup walkthrough. ## Your Files Are Not Our Business Weftly doesn't collect your information or hold onto your content. Files auto-delete after 24 hours — not archived, not analyzed for training data, not stored beyond what's needed to complete your job. No account means no profile, no data to breach, and no inbox to fill with marketing email. The content lifecycle is complicated enough. Weftly's job is to simplify it — and then get out of your way. Transcription, summarization, and clip discovery are live today at [weftly.ai](https://weftly.ai). No account required. No credit card until you're ready. ### FAQ **How much does Weftly cost?** Audio transcription is $0.50 per file. Video transcription is $1.00. Summarization is $0.75 audio / $1.25 video.
